Special to the Daily Times
This year commemorates a 100-year celebration of a small town school district that has had a tremendous influence on many student, staff and community lives. The Bloom-Vernon Local School District is proud to celebrate this occasion on Saturday, May 12, at the elementary school gymnasium. We will be having a night to remember featuring a student art show, an elementary program at 5:30 p.m., a retired teacher’s reception and a junior high/high school choir and band performance at 7:30 p.m.
Bloom-Vernon Elementary and South Webster Junior/Senior High School student artwork will be on display for your enjoyment throughout the evening. The art show will feature various student works, including several award-winning pieces from elementary, Scioto County and University of Rio Grande Art Shows.
The elementary program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with second-graders singing songs from the past, including ones you may have learned in elementary school which may still run through your mind. Next, students in the grades three and five will present a program entitled “Sing and Celebrate the 20thCentury.” This upbeat and exciting show will bring back many memories from the past.
For the elementary program, we are planning to have many guest appearances that you will not want to miss. Additionally, as a way to involve the community, we would like to invite all Bloom-Vernon alumni to join us for an alumni choir that is forming to sing during the elementary program. Practices for the alumni choir will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. and Friday, May 11, at 1:30 p.m. at the elementary building. We ask that you attend at least one of these rehearsals. We would like to invite any alumni to come and join in the fun. If you plan on participating in the Alumni choir, please contact Nathan Davis or Rhonda Keslar 740-778-2339.
The Bloom-Vernon Local School District and the South Webster Alumni Association will be honoring retired Bloom retired teachers with a reception following the elementary concert about 6:15 p.m. We are requesting that retired teachers have a ticket to come to the reception. Please contact Rodney Barnett, 740-778-0001, for your ticket and plan to join us in the festivities.
The junior high/high school concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature our grades 7-12 vocal music students as well as grades 5-12 band students. The junior high and high school repertoire will consist of many choral and instrumental music standards that have stood the test of time. The choirs will perform pieces in several different musical styles from many of the well known choral composers and arrangers. The bands will perform various selections including some from the pop and musical theater genres such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller and a medley from The Phantom of the Opera.
We hope that Saturday, May 12, will be a great evening to reflect on the past history of the Bloom-Vernon Local School District, to see great accomplishments that are currently happening
