Western's premier post player Vince Shanks scored his 1,000th point in the third quarter.
Shanks scored 21 points with 17 rebounds.
"Vince Shanks picked up his 1,000th point in the third quarter tonight and I appreciate East for allowing us to stop the game and award him with the game ball," Western coach Trent Harrop said. "He has definitely earned that through his years of playing and dedication. They're class acts over there (at East)."
Shanks wasn't alone in the scoring column. Chris Penwell led all scorers with 25 points with six rebounds, six assists and six steals. Jade Hall also came through with 17 points and Bobbie Smithson scored 16 points with nine rebounds.
Jordan Garrett led East with 17 points and Jon Garrett added 14 points. Chase Mault scored six points with eight rebounds.
East played a close second half but never overcame the first two quarters.
"I want to credit Western for being well prepared and getting off to a great start tonight," East coach Travis Bradford said.
East hosts Coal Grove tonight while Western travels to Paint Valley.

Minford got off to a hot start against South Webster and held on to win, keeping the Falcons close, but still on the outside looking in in the SOC II.
The homecoming-night win improves Minford to 10-4 and 6-3 in the conference, tied with Waverly for second place.
Evan Price scored 17 points to lead Minford and Sean Smith added 16 points. Hugh Brisker scored nine.
Wes Loop led South Webster with 19 points.
“We started off playing really well,” Minford coach Kyle Copley said. “In the first quarter we had a nice run and then it kind of evened out... We felt like we grinded it out. Every game is big for us from here on out.”
Minford travels to Northwest next Friday.

Eastern started the game off with a 20-9 first quarter and never looked back to beat Clay and stay tied with Western Pike in the SOC I.
The Eagles (8-4, 7-1 SOC I) were led by Kole Wheeler with 16 points and seven rebounds. Bryan Osborne scored seven points with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Jordan Thornsberry added 14 points with five assists and four steals.
“Of our 27 field goals, we had 19 assists,” Eastern coach P.J. Fitch said. “We did a good job of getting the ball around.”
Eastern travels to Northwest on Tuesday.

A 32-8 second quarter gave Waverly the cushion it needed to coast to a win over West in West Portsmouth on Friday.
The win keeps Waverly in a tie for second in the SOC II.
Harrison Martin led the Tigers with 23 points, Jake Kretzer had 15 poitns, Ryan Robertson scored 13 points and Derek Roback scored 12 points.
Waverly travels to Oak Hill next Friday. Oak Hill is tied for the SOC II lead.

Andrew Seaman led Peebles with 17 points and four assists and Blake Justice scored 12 points with six rebounds and six assists. Tyler Arnold scored 14 points with 12 rebounds in the win.
“The balance in scoring was a big thing for us,” Peebles coach Brett Justice said. “We had four guys in double figures and one with nine (points). It was a good balanced attack.”
