Freshman Matt Jones of Greenup was named Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Week. Jones had a terrific week at the plate, accumulating 11 hits, 11 runs, three doubles, a triple and a home run.
In the Bears 38-1 win over Ohio University-Chillicothe, Jones went 5-for-7 with three home runs and eight RBI’s.
Jones added three hits and five runs in SSU’s 23-0 win over Pikeville in the opening game of the series.
This season, Jones is batting .330 with 12 doubles, which ranks second in the conference. He has also produced a .541 slugging percentage, which is fourth best in the MSC.
