SOLACE of Portsmouth will be hosting the premiere of the “Finding SOLACE” documentary on Tuesday, April 3, at All Saints Church, 610 Fourth St. in Portsmouth, starting at 6 p.m. The documentary runs about 25 minutes and there will be free admission to the viewing.
“The Drug Free Action Alliance came a few months ago and did some filming here in Scioto County of different (SOLACE) members. We heard different stories of loss, we heard from people who have somebody who is struggling with addiction,” SOLACE Director Jo Anna Krohn said. “They (Drug Free Action Alliance) went to a few of the other SOLACE groups around the state and filmed people in recovery.”
She said this video takes a different approach on the issue of prescription drug abuse.
“This is the story of our loss, our struggle and our success. At the end of the video it focuses heavily on the success we’ve had as a group and as a community,” Krohn said. “We are having this premier to get feedback from the community, before the final cut is made. The video will be shown on television and used as a tool throughout Ohio to help other groups form and help their community deal their drug addiction problem.”
Krohn said she gets calls almost on a daily basis from other communities asking for help and support in starting SOLACE chapters.
“There are eight chapters of SOLACE throughout Ohio. We also have a project lined up with Mental Health and Recovery Services of Stark County (Ohio). The project is being called Access to Recovery, SOLACE expansion. There are five in northeastern Ohio that will be participating in starting SOLACE chapters by the end of June,” Krohn said.
Participants of the premiere are asked to bring a covered dish to share.
