A semi-tractor trailer overturned on Ohio 140 Wednesday morning, spilling trash across the highway and down an embankment.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a semi tractor trailer — owned by WNA Trucking of Ironton and operated by Carl Loper, 51, of West Portsmouth — was hauling trash from Franklin Furnace to Wellston at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday when it went left-of-center, over-corrected and then overturned near Mile Post 5 on Ohio 140. Trash was spilled over an embankment.

No other traffic was in the area at the time of the accident, and no injuries were reported.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded, and was assisted by the Porter Township Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The highway was reduced to one lane of traffic during the clean-up, and was closed only momentarily while the truck was turned right-side-up and loaded onto a wrecker.

Loper was cited for failure to control his vehicle.

Gahms Wrecker Service took away the wrecked semi and cleaned the scene of spilled trash.
