N. Janet Timberlake, 76, of South Portsmouth, Ky., died Monday, March 26, 2012, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

She was born in Greenup County, Ky., April 27, 1935, a daughter of the late Morgan Collier and Nellie Mae Hardin Collier. She was a housewife, member of the Sunshine United Methodist Church, avid golfer, loved the outside.

She was the founder of the Golf Tournament for the benefit of breast cancer, Susan G. Komen Foundation. She never met a stranger.

Surviving are her husband, James D. Timberlake to whom she married Sept. 5, 1951; one son, Stan “Treca” Timberlake of Ashland, Ky.; one sister, Mabel Timberlake of South Shore, Ky.; two grandchildren, Mindy Timberlake Sunderland of Louisville, Ky., and James “Laura” Travis Timberlake of Ashland, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper Thomas Sunderland and James “Jay” Travis Timberlake.

Preceded in death by a son, Gregory; three sisters, Marilyn Forbes, Alberta Fox and Hazel Bentley.

Funeral services 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Roberson Funeral Home, with Rev. David Herndon and Rev. Adam Sparks, officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery, South Shore, Ky.

Friends may call at the Roberson Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sunshine United Methodist Church Building Fund, South Shore, Ky.
