SSU Sports Information
The Shawnee State University Men’s Soccer Program will play Ohio Valley University in a benefit soccer spring match March 24 at Shawnee State University. All proceeds from this game will benefit the Chardon community. SSU standout Chad Johnston is a graduate of Chardon High School, and Chad will be delivering the proceeds to Chardon High School.
Game time is set for noon.
Bruns and Quinlan named NAIA Scholar Athletes
Senior Alex Bruns and junior Jarred Quinlan were named NAIA Scholar Athletes for their work in the classroom. The two are among 55 men’s basketball players to earn this honor.
Bruns, a center from Middletown, Ohio majors in Mathematics.
Quinlan, a forward from Manchester, Ohio is majors in Mathematics
To be eligible for the honors they must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
Ballman and Rumfield named NAIA Scholar Athletes
Senior Abby Ballman and junior Tristan Rumfield were named NAIA Scholar Athletes for their work in the classroom. The two are among 127 women’s basketball players to earn this honor.
Ballman, a guard from Cincinnati, Ohio is a Psychology major.
Rumfield, a forward from Bainbridge, Ohio majors in Middle School Education.
To be eligible for the honors they must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
Thompson named MSC Pitcher of the Week
Junior Ali Thompson of Franklin Furnace was named Mid-South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Thompson earned the honor as she threw a complete-game shutout over the University of Pikeville on Tuesday.
She allowed just two hits in the Bears 3-0 win while striking out three hitters.
Thompson leads the MSC with a 0.65 ERA, opponent’s batting average (.135) and earned runs allowed (4).
