Valley Local School District recently announced the introduction of the Distinguished Academic and Athletic Halls of Fame. These awards honor Valley alumni whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life’s work and/or service to their communities, or to those who have made significant contributions to the Valley High School Athletic Program. The Distinguished Academic Hall of Fame award also emphasizes the importance of graduates that have been lifelong learners and those who made the most of every opportunity. The Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame will also serve as a means of recognizing, preserving, and honoring the athletes, coaches, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the athletic programs at Valley High School. Inductees to either one of the Halls of Fame will serve as role models for the current student body.
In 2010, Valley Local School District inducted three members into its first Hall of Fame: James Young, Eugene McKenzie, and John Wolford. The three were celebrated at the Alumni Association’s Annual Banquet. Last year, the Alumni Association did not sponsor the event; however, the Valley Local School District recognized a need for such recognition to continue, and because of this, have brought back the Halls of Fame.
Individuals are asked to visit the district web site to learn more about the regulations and deadlines set for the nominations to the Halls of Fame. The deadline for nominations is April 1. Nominations can be printed off the school web site and sent to the appropriate person. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the high school principal at 259-5551.
