A Wheelersburg man is recovering after Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his hand was cut off with a sword during an argument.

Donini said detectives arrested Dustin R. Walker, 31, of Wheelersburg and charged him with felonious assault after he reportedly amputated 27-year-old Eric Hammond’s hand.

Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office received a 911 call from a residence on Clay Street in Wheelersburg about 12:23 p.m. Thursday stating a male subject showed up at the door with his hand amputated and saying he had been in a fight. Deputies, detectives and the Porter EMS Squad responded to the location where a report was taken, which led to Walker at his residence on Green Avenue in Wheelersburg.

Detectives located the sword they say was used in the altercation. Hammond was treated at SOMC and then transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Hammond is listed in serious but stable condition.

Walker is being held on a $7,500 bond and will appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court this morning. Donini said anyone with information concerning the assault is asked to contact Detective Jodi Conkel at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at 740-351-1091. All calls will remain anonymous.
