Ohio voters go to the polls today for the Super Tuesday primary election, and while the nation has been transfixed on the Republican presidential saga, Scioto County races offer their share of drama.

Democrats are choosing between Donnie Rachford and Cherice Keyser for one County Commissioner candidacy. The winner of the primary will challenge current Scioto County Commissioner Mike Crabtree in the general November election.

Current Scioto County Commissioner Tom Reiser has filed as a Democrat for re-election to another County Commission seat. Republican Doug Coleman has filed to run against Reiser.

Scioto County Democrats also will choose between Gail Alley, Russ Doyle and Jim Lintz to see who will challenge Republican Bill Warnock in the November general election.

Six people have filed to run for a seat on the Court of Appeals: Marie Hoover, Tom Spetnagel, Leonard Holzapfel, Patricia Sanders, Lori Harden, and Steven Newman. William Harsha is running unopposed for another appeals court seat.

In the general election, incumbent Republican Dr. Terry Johnson and Democrat John Haas, Portsmouth City Council president will run for the newly created 90th District House of Representatives seat.

The Green Local School District is asking voters to approve a 7 mill levy to provide emergency funding.

Jerry Buckler, Jay Willis or independent candidate J.B. Marshall will be the next judge of Domestic Relations Court.

Scioto County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Kuhn, County Clerk of Courts Lisa White, County Engineer Craig Opperman, Coroner Darren Adams, and County Treasurer William Ogg are up for re-election and unopposed.

For Scioto County sheriff, three candidates will wait to face off in the general election, since current Sheriff Marty Donini is on the Republican ticket, New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins is on the Democratic and former Portsmouth Police Chief Charles Horner is running as an independent. Horner filed Monday to run.
