Douglas M. Monk, 69, of West Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at SOMC Hospice. He was born Dec. 8, 1942, in Newport, Ky., to the late Reverend John A. and Elennora Deaver Monk. He worked in the heating and cooling business for many years and was a member of Mount Zion Apostolic Church in West Portsmouth. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a son, John Lindsey Monk, and a sister, Violet Milstead.
Doug is survived by his wife, Trula White Monk, who he married Aug. 28, 1960; two sons, Douglas (Roberta) Monk Jr. and Mark Edward Monk both of West Portsmouth; a daughter, Tessa (Kenneth) Potts of West Portsmouth; a brother, Rickey Lee Monk of West Portsmouth; three sisters, Eloise Osborne of West Portsmouth, Connie Bates of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jacolyn Skidmore of Greenup, Ky.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Mount Zion Apostolic Church in West Portsmouth with Brother Don Harr and Steven Skidmore officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday starting at 1 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth.
