As the frigid air of January is finally upon us, the warmth of the many kindnesses shown The Counseling Center (TCC) throughout the holiday season lingers in our hearts and on our minds. I write on behalf of the administration, board members, TCC staff, and the client families of our agency. We are thankful for the many donations provided in December. The Portsmouth and Scioto County area makes Christmas magical for hundreds of children by participating in “angel tree” projects set forth by Catholic Social Services, Salvation Army and collections of other agencies.

Over 300 children associated with The Counseling Center as children of clients received at least one Christmas present. In most cases, the children received a bag full of beautifully wrapped packages. Some of the infants and children served by the community’s generosity are living with their mothers at Stepping Stone House or with their mothers who are receiving transitional services/housing. Men who are in services at the Marsh House, Second Chance Center, and Kindred Spirits were provided with gifts for their children they would see at Christmas. Women living in a St. Lucy Sober Living for Women site received gifts for their children when visiting at Christmas. Even children who frequent The Counseling Center’s Club House with their parents received gifts.

To you, we are grateful for bringing a twinkle to many little eyes.

In addition to the “angel tree” gift bundles, there were toys, clothes, handmade animals, and other goodies donated independently from motorcycle clubs, faith-based groups, service organizations, and individuals.

The Counseling Center benefits greatly from the generosity of the community and beyond throughout the year and we are so appreciative of the small and large gifts. We receive financial donations, donations of individuals’ time and talent, clothing, personal care items, household supplies, furniture, and food just to mention a few. This is one of the many amazing things about our community! You are generous.

For more information about giving opportunities throughout the year, please contact Susan McComas, Director of Resource Development. The Counseling Center 354-3829 ext 240 or email: susanm@thecounselingcenter.org.
