William Paul “Puppy” Carter, 80, of South Shore, Kentucky, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. He ws born in Blairs Mill, Kentucky, Nov. 3, 1931, a son of the late William Matt Carter and Gertrude Easterling Carter. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ashland, Kentucky, a retired Electrician and a member of Local 317 of the IBEW of Huntington, West Virginia, a Korean War Veteran and a member of the James L. Flannery American Legion Post #276 of South Shore, Kentucky. Preceded in death by one brother, Durwood Carter. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Steele Carter of South Shore, Kentucky; two daughters, Nancy Farris of Ashland, Kentucky, and Paula Schweitzer of Knoxville, Tennessee; one son, William Scott Carter of Nicholasville, Kentucky; one sister, Verna Callihan of South Shore, Kentucky; and three grandchildren, two nieces, Becky Williams of South Shore, Kentucky, and Karen Hillman of Ashland, Kentucky.
Graveside services 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Mt. Zion Cemetery, with Rev. Norman Potter, officiating. No visitation. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the South Shore Nazarene Church Building Fund, C/O Betty Hardin, 111 7th Street, South Shore, Kentucky 41175.
