McCoys reopen Huddle House on Scioto Trail

Bobby McCoy and his wife, Connie, of Oak Hill have taken ownership of the Portsmouth Huddle House, 2807 Scioto Trail. The McCoys have brought a costumer service state of mind to the business. They have instilled in their employees that the customers always come first.

"We found the Huddle House for sale and this was something we wanted to venture into. I'm willing to make a go of it and I'm going to make a go of it," McCoy said. "Huddle House is a good establishment for people to come to. Plus, it keeps some jobs here in town."

The original owners of the Portsmouth had to close it due to unforeseen circumstances. Officials with Huddle House corporate decided to take over the location to keep it running until it could be taken over by another owner. The McCoys took over the business on Dec. 1.

"We have doubled the volume of costumers we have had last month. We have tried to get good staff who care and are not here just for a job, but are here to see the business grow, we have people that takes pride in what they are doing," McCoy said.

Huddle House in known for its big house platters. The Portsmouth Huddle House offers a full breakfast and lunch menu along with an entire dinner line. Everything on the menu is available all day.

"We want to make sure our costumers are treated right and are happy with their experience. We try to be here all the time to interact with the costumers to see if there are ways we can improve," McCoy said. "We have come along and we will keep going further to make sure our costumers are taken care of."

This is not the first business Bobby has owned. He owns four other companies.

"We are trying treat the costumers right and get them their orders quick, fast and accurate," James Karshner, manager of the Portsmouth Huddle House, said.

He said costumers come for a variety of meals. They are offering a $2.99 special for a breakfast platter that brings in a number of costumers.

"We have a friendly relationship with our costumers. We have repeat costumers that come in two or three times a day. This is a friendly place to come to set and have your coffee and have your meal," McCoy said.

Students at Shawnee State University and other universities and colleges who can show a student ID and they will receive a 10 percent discount. Any uniform officers receive a 10 percent discount. Senior citizens receive a discount and on Monday nights seniors can buy a meal and get a meal free. On Monday and Tuesday nights kids eat with a paid adult for 99 cents.

The hours of operations are Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. to midnight. They open on Friday at 6 a.m. and do not close until Sunday at midnight. For more information about Huddle House and the services they offer call 353-7490.
