Robert “Jack” Jackson Horton, 73, of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, in Heartland of Portsmouth. He was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Siloam, Ky., a son of the late Millard Horton and Vivian Jackson Horton. He was a Army veteran, member of the James L. Flannery American Legion Post #276 of South Shore, Ky., Lucasville Masonic Lodge# 465, El Hasa Shrine, 32nd degree mason, a Kentucky Colonel, New Boston Eagles #2271 and Portsmouth Moose Lodge. He was a retired employee of the former Empire Detroit Steel and a mechanic. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Ruth Welty Horton, one son Robert J. Horton Jr. of Portsmouth, Ohio, one daughter and her husband, Dawn “Richard” Little of Lawton, Okla., one brother, Bill (Mildred) Horton of Batavia, Ohio, and one sister, Lois Constantine of Mystic, Conn., two grandsons, two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by one brother, Larry Horton.
Funeral services 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Roberson Funeral Home, with Brother Mark Campbell, officiating. Friends may call at the Roberson Funeral Home from 5 till 8 p.m. on Friday, and Saturday from 10 till 11 a.m., with military graveside services by the James L. Flannery American Legion Post #276 at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Memorial Gardens at Franklin Furnace, Ohio. Masonic services by the Lucasville Masonic Lodge #465 at 8 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to their favorite charity. Also the family would like to thank all the people at Heartland of Portsmouth for being so kind and so helpful.
