As an independent pharmacist serving the Piketon community and employing eight individuals, I recently attended the National Community Pharmacists Association’s annual convention in Nashville, Tenn. This meeting of pharmacists from across the nation allowed me to discuss best practices with my colleagues, learn about innovative technologies and trends in pharmacy, and hear from prominent, bipartisan political figures, including Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Independent community pharmacists are an invaluable asset to patients and our health care system. We serve as a resource to ensure proper use of medications and adherence to a patient’s prescription regimen, which both assists them in living healthier lives and also helps lower overall health care costs. A recent survey of Consumer Reports readers affirmed that patients trust our guidance and are very satisfied with our service. I believe participation in this conference will allow me and my fellow community pharmacists to improve our services even more.
