He was born in Portsmouth on Sept. 25, 1922, and happily resided here with his bride of 61 years, Evelyn Erieg Anderson. His surviving family members are Martha (Charles Miker), James Anderson, and Elizabeth (James Hallan). Grandchildren include: Sarah, Mary (Chip Birkner), Meagan (William Longley), William, Daniel, James, Claire; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.
Bill was a life-long member of Trinity Methodist, now Cornerstone United Methodist. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America; a fraternity member of Phi Gamma Delta at Ohio Wesleyan University; a pilot in the Army Air Corps; manager and CLU of Equitable Life of Iowa, now ING; and a member and past president of the Portsmouth Rotary Club.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ruth Anderson; brothers, Charles and James; sister, Elizabeth Mumma; and daughter-in-law, Christine Warren Anderson.
Celebration of his life will be Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, with Rev. Clark Hess officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. before the 11 a.m. service. Private interment at Greenlawn Cemetery will follow.
