William Alvin Kamer, 87, of Portsmouth, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Bill was born June 17, 1921, in Portsmouth to the late Jesse and Flora Thomas Kamer.

His wife, Myrtle Mara James Kamer, whom he married Dec. 28, 1939, in Portsmouth, preceded him in death on July 28, 2006.

He was the retired proprietor of the former Kamer's Sanitation Service and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a World War II Army veteran having earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Purple Heart Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Surviving are his sons, William Howard and Paul Edward Kamer, both of Portsmouth; a daughter, Mary Catherine Leslie of Portsmouth; a brother, Elmer "Jiggs
