SCIOTOVILLE -- Much of what we call human emotions come from three feelings: joy, anger and sadness.

The East Lady Tartans saw their share of all three Monday in their 57-54 overtime victory over Symmes Valley at home

Meghan Williams led the way for East, scoring 16 points with nine coming off three-point shots and the other seven coming from the stripe. Jessica McCallister was the only other East player in double figures with 13 points. McCallister was all over the floor picking up six steals on the evening. McCallister and Williams went 9 of 12 from the line in the overtime period.

Toni Lang added six points and corralled 11 rebounds for East.

For the Lady Vikings, Jessie Morris led all scorers with 17 points. She also had six boards. Haily Pellitier added eight points and nine rebounds.

Despite Williams hitting three deep balls, the three-pointer to be remembered came from McCallister. She hit a three-point shot with six seconds to go to send this SOC I battle into an extra session. McCallister's deep ball knotted the game at 48.

"Mac (McCallister) works on that shot a lot," East coach Jack Branon said. "She's a hard worker and a great point guard for us. We don't count on her to score a whole lot of points for us, but it's nice when she can step up and hit one. I thought she played a great game. It's fitting she hit the three."

McCallister's shot was described as "amazing" by teammate Brittany Caudill.

In overtime the Lady Tartans did not connect on a single field goal but there would be no need. Their free throw shooting was just good enough to put one in the win column.

The only two points scored through the first two minutes of the overtime period were a pair of Williams free throws.

Williams extended the East lead to three with a 1 of 2 showing from the stripe with 10 seconds left. On the ensuing Symmes Valley possession, East fouled a three -point shooter, but the Lady Vikings could not convert at the line missing all three free throws.

Williams' first trey of the evening tied the game at 10 late in the opening quarter.

Williams' second and third threes capped a 8-0 run that the Lady Tartans put together over the first 2:50 of the second half to take back the lead.

Symmes Valley responded ending the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 34-32 lead into the fourth stanza.

Symmes Valley quickly pushed its lead to five in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter causing East to take a timeout.

"'I told the girls basketball is a game of runs,'" Branon said. "'They scored a bunch of points and we're going to score a bunch of points just be patient and it will come'".

Out of the timeout East had renewed spirit and the lead was cut to one with 3:28 left. The lead was extended to three late, before McCallister's three hit nothing but nylon to send the game into overtime and sent East fans home happy.

East hosts Notre Dame Thursday. Symmes Valley travels to Clay.
