James Maurice Gore, 71, of Portsmouth, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

Born Dec. 19, 1936, he was preceded in death by his father, Edgar J. Gore Jr., in 1959 and by his mother, Emogene Adkins Gore, in 2000.

He is survived by his sister, Doris (Stanley) Workman, and six nieces and nephews, Karen (Scott) Grashel of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kimberly Workman, Stanley Workman Jr., Gordon Workman, Bruce (Pollyanna) Workman, and his special niece, Polly (Richard) Bowman, all of Portsmouth. He is also survived by three great-nieces and five great-nephews, Amy Grashel, Zachary Grashel, Richelle, Candace and Richard (Jr.) Bowman, Mark Jackson, Woodrow and Jack Workman.

He was a 1954 graduate of Portsmouth High School. He was a retired staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Russell Williams Post 47l American Legion, and James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. He was a long-time member of First Christian Church, recently transferring to Second Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Co. in Portsmouth, with the Rev. Stanley Webster officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Daehlers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Thomas Grashel and Wesley Workman Scholarship Funds at Portsmouth High School, 1225 Gallia St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.
