He was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Franklin Furnace, to the late James Franklin and Lucy Mae Hughes Bailey. He was a Navy Korean War veteran and a retired pipefitter. He was a member of Franklin Furnace Methodist Church, Western Sun Lodge No.91, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No.577.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Rose Marcum Bailey, who he married Jan. 21, 1953, in Maysville, Ky.
He is survived by five sons, Curtis "Odell" (Kathy) Bailey Jr., Robert Guy (Barbara) Bailey, Gene Keith (Connie) Bailey, Terry Alan (Wanda) Bailey and Jamie (Sherry) Bailey; two brothers, Gale Randall Bailey and Robert Alfred (Freda) Bailey; three sisters, Omedia Howell, Sharolyn Kay Heatwole and Jean Staker; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debora Bailey; and two brothers, James Franklin Bailey and Arnold Edward Bailey.
Services will be Monday, Oct. 10, 2008. at 1 p.m. at the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with the Rev. Terry Bailey and Pastor Gary Heimbach officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. There will be military graveside services conducted by James Dickey Post American Legion.
