She was born Feb. 9, 1923, to the late Daniel and Mary Prose at Pond Creek. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, Women's International Bowling Association, lifelong member of Portsmouth Bowling Association, and member of Portsmouth Women's Bowling Hall of Fame.
She is survived by eight children, Ronald (Diane) Montavon of Portsmouth, Kenneth (Karen) Montavon of Otway, Linda King of McDermott, Teresa (Gary) Lute of Friendship, and Dennis (Cindy) Montavon, Patricia Davis and Mary Clare (Bob) Redoutey, all of McDermott, and Carl Gregory Montavon of Cincinnati; 22 grandchildren, Kelly Smith, Stacy and Donald Montavon Jr., Justin, Jeff and Jarrod Montavon, Kathy Ellis, Bryan Sturgell, Jacque Robinson, Kristen and Seth Lute, Ryan, Thomas, Nathan, Brandon and Amber Montavon, Jason, Aaron and Eric Davis, Carrie Young, Nicholas Redoutey, and Danielle Montavon; two stepgrandchildren, Melody Rice and Thomas King; 20 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Prose of McDermott, Edward Prose of Columbus, Walter Prose of Pond Creek, and Robert Prose of Dry Run; and one sister, Jovita McBroom of McDermott.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Carl Montavon; infant son Ronald Montavon; two grandchildren, Robert Sturgell and Mary Kay Caitlin; three brothers, Paul, Donald and Joe Prose; and sister, Clara Prose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Young officiating, and interment following in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth with a recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m.
