Verna Louise Gilley, 86, of New Boston, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Hill View Retirement Center.

She was born Feb. 26, 1922, in New Boston, a daughter of the late Orvil and Myrtle Stacy Hunt. She was a toy department manager at the former S.S. Kresge, a greeter at Wal-mart where she retiredand attended the Church of God of Prophecy and South Shore First Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Robert G. Gilley and wife Cheryl of Friendship, and Greg Gilley and wife Ann of New Boston; four daughters, Sharon Lewis and husband Ron of Lebanon, Ohio, Lana Mercer and husband Danny of South Shore, Ky., Susan Bailey of New Boston and Cathy McKenzie and husband Andy of Minford; one brother, Howard Hunt of Minford; one sister, Virginia Williams of Wheelersburg; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Gilley; one brother, Claude Copeland; three sisters, Georgia Lambert, Kathleen Payton, Helen Copeland and Jessie Johnson; two grandchildren, Katie Mercer and Stephen Mercer; and a very special sister-in-law, Dorothy Nance.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston, with Pastor Bill Hayden officiating. Entombment will be at Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be Thursday 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday 10 to 11 a.m. at D.W. Swick in New Boston.
