Dora B. Kessinger, 91, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Hempstead Manor.

A native of Load, Ky., she was born Oct. 31, 1916, to the late Homer Miller and Rebecca Lemaster Miller. She was a retired cook, having been employed at Friendship Elementary School for 25 years.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Clare E. "Pete" Kessinger, on Feb. 6, 1988. Also preceding her in death were a son, Timothy J. Kessinger; a grandson, Tim-othy Joseph Kessinger II; two brothers, John Miller and Rufus Miller; two sisters, Mae Bailey and Faitha Boyle; and a half sister, Evelyn Tubbs.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry L. (Phyllis) Kessinger of Flatwoods, Ky,. and P. Michael (Eva) Kessinger of St. George, Utah; seven grandchildren, Jerry Kessinger, Becky Kessinger, Lindsey Kessinger, Jason Kessinger, Jodi Walters, Tammy Davis, and Amy Turner; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a half sister Rosemary Sammons.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth, with the Rev. Jim Brandenburg officiating. Burial will be in Lemaster Cemetery at Load, Ky. Visitation will be two hours before the funeral from noon to 2 p.m. at Daehler
