John Elzie “Rocky” Rockwell, 72, passed away and walked through Heaven’s gates to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011. Mr. Rockwell was born May 10, 1939, in Pike County, Ohio, to the late John and Winifred Bliss Rockwell. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gary Rockwell, and his sister Kimberly Vanco. Mr. Rockwell served 4 years in the Army and he enjoyed sharing stories of his times in Germany. He lived in Fredericksburg, Va., from 1979 through 2008, and was employed by the Defense Logistics Agency (“Cameron Station”) in Alexandria, Va., for 34 years as an Audio Visual Specialist, where he received many honors. Upon retiring from the government, he worked for a few other places, including Fredericksburg Baptist Church for four years before permanently retiring. He then moved to Mineola, Texas, where he enjoyed visits from his best friends, John and Katrina and Tina Britton. Throughout his life, he enjoyed gardening, painting, listening to old records, reading the newspaper and magazines, cooking and feeding everyone until they couldn’t eat any more. Mr. Rockwell is survived by his wife Linda Rockwell, his daughters Sheri Rockwell-Bicknell and Starla Rockwell, his sons John, Stephen, and Adam Rockwell, and his six grandchildren, Justin, Cheyenne, Bradley, Dakota, Aiden and Maxx, and his brothers Ronnie and Vernon Rockwell, his sister Karen Rockwell, and their children.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville with Tim Throckmorton officiating. Burial will follow in Lucasville Cemetery where military graveside rites will be performed by the William A. Baker and James Irwin Posts of the American Legion. Friends may call from noon till the funeral hour Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to Mr. Rockwell’s favorite charities, the Christian Appalachian Project, P.O.
