The deadline for accepting applications for the 2009 Miss Portsmouth and Miss Scioto Valley Scholarship Program, as well as the Miss Ports-mouth Outstanding Teen and Miss Scioto Valley Outstanding Teen has been extended to Oct. 8. This deadline is just 10 days before the actual pageant on Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts on the campus of Shawnee State University in Portsmouth. There are needed eight contestants to give away two Miss Titles and six contestants to give away two Outstanding Teen titles.

Red Cross announces classes

The Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross announces its October classes to be held at the chapter house, 614 Glover St.

Classes will include
