"We accepted Mildred Thompson's resignation effective Friday (September 12th)," Tom Reiser, Scioto County Commissioner noted.
The Commissioners accepted the three paragraph letter of resignation from Thompson.
In her letter, she writes "This is to inform you of my decision to retire from my position as Scioto County Clerk of Courts of Common Pleas, completing my obligation on September 12th. After many years of service, I make this decision on the needs of the county budget. Retiring at this time will not cost the county money for a special election to fill an unexpired term and will save the county three plus months salary that can be used to help the budget."
Mildred has served in the office of Clerk of Courts for 40 years. When the commissioners accepted the resignation they appointed Lisa White, interim Clerk of Courts until the November election in which she is running for the office unopposed.
"Even though we are in different political parties, she has worked well with us. Since I have been here in the last eight years, it has been a positive experience. She has been very helpful and she will be missed," Reiser said.
In May, White celebrated her 29th year with the Clerk of Courts.
"She (Mildred) had talked about retiring for a while. I think she finally realized she could not come into the office. She stepped down and knows that I am running unopposed. A lot of people know my name from dealing with me in the office on a day to day basis. It feels good to try and fill her shoes," Lisa White said.
A reception will be held in honor of Mildred in the lobby of the Scioto County Court House on Friday, September 19th at 10:30 a.m. to honor her many years of service.
