The Lady Pirates kept their perfect record alive with a 4-1 win over visiting Ironton Monday afternoon in Wheelersburg.
Wheelersburg gave some of its younger players the chance to experience playing in a varsity match while resting their more veteran players Monday.
"[The younger players] sat for so many times and watched the regular ones," said Wheelersburg coach Tom Carter. "I was just glad they got out there, win, lose or draw. It's for the kids and it's good for their morale."
In the No. 1 singles affair, Wheelersburg's Morgan Lebrun took on Jessica Brown from Ironton. Brown led the match in the early going and had a 3-2 lead before Lebrun closed the first set, winning the last four games taking the first set 6-3. Lebrun only dropped one game in the second set as she dispatched Brown in straight sets.
The No. 2 singles match pitted the Lady Pirates' Lauren Allen up against Emily Lilly for the Fighting Lady Tigers. Allen cruised in the opening set wining four consecutive games to claim the first set 6-1.
In the second, Lilly started off with a one-game lead and then hung on to that lead almost the entire set. With a 5-4, Lilly had an opportunity to give Ironton the match, but Allen fought back and took the last three games to win in a tiebreaker 7-5.
The No. 3 singles went to the Lady Pirates' Kaylee Blevins by forfeit.
In the No. 1 doubles contest, the Lady Pirates' pair of Courtney Stamper and Rachael Phillips took on Danielle Adkins and Ashley Bruce. Stamper and Phillips had control most of the match and dismissed the duo from Ironton in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
The No. 2 doubles match went in favor of Ironton. The Lady Fighting Tigers' couple of Autumn Beach and Lindsay Adkins were able to get by the Lady Pirates' pair of Jordan McKittrick and Bre Horton. Beach and Adkins fought back from a 2-1 deficit in the first set, rallying to take the first set and took control of the second set early on and never looked back. The Ironton pair won the match 6-2, 6-2.
