Genealogy conference is set
The seventh annual Eastern Kentucky Genealogy Conference will take place Sept. 19 and 21 at the Ramada Inn in Paintsville, Ky. This event, which promotes the research and preservation of Eastern Kentucky Family History, offers a wealth of information for any family historian with ties to Eastern Ken-tucky. The conference provides both the novice and veteran researcher the opportunity to connect with others researching the same surnames and many "brick walls" have been broken down as a result of these connections.
The Kentucky Historical Society, Kentucky Genealogical Society and several Eastern Kentucky Historical and Genealogical Societies will be represented, as well as numerous researchers from across the country. The complete agenda, registration and contact information are available on the conference Web site www.ekygc.org.
Trustees plan fall cleanup
The Porter Township trustees, Bob Walton, Bob Willard and Dave Hayden, have set the date for fall cleanup. Residents may dispose of unwanted items and debris from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 through 8. Dumpsters will be located at the service department, 8809 Green St., Wheelersburg. This is a fenced in area and access will only be given to Porter Township residents. Drivers' licenses will be checked.
The township cannot pick up debris door to door. All debris must be placed in the dumpsters and not beside them. No tires, refrigerators, freezers, paint, batteries, asbestos, oil or other hazardous material will be accepted.
