Lawmen say thieves stole several guns Wednesday from a Wheelersburg residence.

According to a Scioto County Sheriff’s Office report, someone kicked in a front door and took several guns from a gun cabinet. Taken were a 270 Winchester with a scope, valued at $400; a 22 Magnum rifle, valued at $200; a 700 Remington muzzle loader with a Simmons Classic scope, valued at $300, and a 500 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun, valued at $300.

A witness told authorities they saw two males in gray hooded sweatshirts running from the house, carrying something in a blanket. Witnesses also reported a dark chocolate brown short-bed Chevrolet truck driving up and down Poplar Fork and Schwamberger road, in the area of the theft.

Thieves took three guns from a Minford residence on Tuesday: a 410 Sega shotgun, valued at $500; a 410 Taurus Judge handgun, valued at $500; and a Glock .45 caliber sub-compact with two magazines, valued at $600.

A Toshiba flat-screen TV, valued at $800, also was stolen.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said guns are often traded for drugs or sold for money to purchase drugs.
