William Collier, 80, of West Portsmouth, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

He was born March 15, 1928, in Portsmouth, to the late Kenneth and Goldie Collier. He was retired from Empire Detroit Steel, was a WWII Army veteran, a member of James Dickey Post 23 American Legion and the Moose Lodge.

Along with his parents, William was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis and Everett Collier; and a sister, Norma Jean Shepherd.

William is survived by four daughters, Peggy Ann (Robert) Adams and Linda Gail Collier Smith, both of Knoxville Tenn., Kathy Jo (Gary) Spradlin of Seymour, Tenn., and Brenda Gay Payton of New Boston; one son, Kenneth Franklin Collier of Windsor, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Gampp, Chris and Eric Goddard, Michael and John Taylor, Danielle Spradlin, Melinda Mischlich, Jennifer Hayles, Willie Collier, Kimberly Sallee, Gary Brown and Matthew Spradlin; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery, with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.
