A Wheelersburg woman was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Ohio 140, near Shela Boulevard.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Gregory Blume, 49, of Minford, was driving a 2007 GMC Sierra truck westbound on Ohio 140, and Heather Tolbert, 39, of Wheelersburg, was driving a 1988 Chevy S-10 truck eastbound.

At about 9 a.m., Tolbert's vehicle reportedly went off the right side of the roadway and onto an embankment. She corrected and went left of center, striking Blume's vehicle head-on.

Tolbert was unrestrained, and was tossed from her vehicle. She was transported by Porter Township Squad to Southern Ohio Medical Center, in Portsmouth, and later was pronounced dead.

Blume also was transported to SOMC, where he was treated and released. No other passengers were reported to be in either vehicle.

Sgt. John Howard, assistant commander at the Portsmouth Post of OSHP, said the crash remains under investigation as troopers examine all available vehicle evidence.

According to statistics published on the OSHP Web site, there were 12 fatal accidents in 2006 and six in 2007. This would be the third fatal accident in Scioto County in 2008 - out of 416 statewide fatal accidents last reported on the site.
