So who's got the best tug-of-war team in Adams County?

An upcoming event called "Pulling Together for Alzheimer's in Adams County" will try to find that out, while at the same time raising money for research into the cure for Alzheimer's disease.

For a $100 donation to the Alzheimer's Association, businesses and organizations in the county can enter a team in the tug-of-war contests scheduled for next month on the grounds of the General Electric-Peebles Testing Operation at Seaman.

Teams will be made up of no more than 10 people. Team categories will be available for men, women, juniors (ages 10-15), seniors (age 55 and older) and co-ed (team must include at least three female members).

Each team member must sign a waiver of release form prior to pulling.

The wining team in each category will receive a trophy and will move on to compete for the overall team title and bragging rights as the best tug-of-war team in Adams County.

All proceeds will be given directly to the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The money will go to assist patients and caregivers in southern Ohio with Alzheimer's education and programming, as well as going toward research and development. Medical scientists hope there is a cure pending for the devastating disease.

The contests will begin at the proving grounds at 10 a.m., July 12.

"This is going to give people a chance to have fun, compete for prizes, and donate to a charitable cause, all in the same day," said Debbie Ryan of General Electric-Peebles.

"Teams can be corporately sponsored or individuals can gather their own sponsorships," she said. "Our goal is to raise as much money as we can for our local Alzheimer's Association."
