"We want everyone to come out and support these people," said Jane Gee of Lucasville. "We've all been touched by cancer in some way, whether through a family member or friend. I don't know anybody who hasn't been touched by it. We need people to come out, and spend their money and help us raise funds."
Gee is a breast cancer survivor for 9 1/2 years and is this year's chairwoman for the 2008 edition of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. She had a recurrence in 2006, and went through chemotherapy and radiation. But now, she's cancer-free.
A former team captain, Gee said she was asked last year to chair the event. At first she was a little hesitant, because she only had been on the committee for one year, but her experience as a team captain for seven years made her an ideal choice.
As a team captain, Gee knows how to raise funds and how to increase fundraising. Her team last year raised $5,000, which was double from the year before.
