The first baseman from the University of Miami was picked in the first round Thursday, seventh overall, by the Cincinnati Reds, who are already well-stocked with left-handed hitters.
Two of them are on Alonso's list of people he wishes to meet - right fielder Ken Griffey Jr. and left fielder Adam Dunn.
"I can't wait to go meet Griffey and Dunn," Alonso said, in a conference call. "Those guys are lefties and I admire their game a lot. It's just great."
Add another lefty to the long-range mix.
