Jonas was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Buena Vista. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a brickmason at Detroit Steel.
Jonas is survived by two sons, Anthony and Gregory (Ruth) Cooper, both of Stout; four grandchildren, Candice Whisman of Stout, Brandy Cooper of West Union, Debra Lewis of Portsmouth, and Leah Blevins of Stout; four great-grandchildren, Layla, Kirsten, Elaina and Erica; two sisters, Ruth Hakala and Irene Schalck, both of Chicago, Ill.; and a nephew, Charles Cooper who was truly his brother at heart.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Cooper; and two sisters, Zetta Young and Betty Caldwell.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with the Rev. Jeremiah Lewis officiating, and interment in McKendree Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour beforer the service Wednesday.
