Arcelia Green, 88, formerly of Wheelersburg, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Hill View Retirement Community.

She was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Arden Kirk and Elsie Sowers Wheeler. Arcelia was a retired school teacher from Wheelersburg Elementary School and a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma International, Shawnee Golden Bears, and Wheelersburg United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four sons, William E. Green III (Joan) of Bellbrook, Ohio, Douglas L. Green (Carol) of Fairfax, Va., David K. Green (Phyllis) of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Michael F. Green (Deborah) of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Carol Curnutte of West Portsmouth, Ohio; a sister, Nora Meadows of Oakland, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, William Emerson Green, whom she married July 6, 1943, in Winona, Miss.; and a son, Richard Allan Green.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ohio, with Pastor Perry Prosch officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008, and one hour before the service Wednesday.
