Southern Ohio Museum invites artists living and working within 85 miles of Portsmouth to enter Cream of the Crop 2008, the museum's biennial juried exhibition, which generates more than $3,000 in purchases and cash awards for regional artists. The exhibition will be shown from June 27 through Aug. 6.

Artists 18 years or older may enter up to three recent works for consideration by this year's juror, Dennis Harrington, director of the Alice F. and Harris K. Weston Art Gallery, Aronoff Center for the Arts, Cincinnati. The juror will have complete authority in determining exhibition content. Works must have been created within the past three years, have previously not been displayed at Southern Ohio Museum and must be for sale.

Any eligible artist who has not received a prospectus should contact the museum at (740) 354-5629, or stop in during regular hours. The museum will begin accepting entries June 13, and the final deadline for entries is June 21.

"Cream of the Crop is an exciting showcase for the finest works by artists in the region," said museum director Sara Johnson.

Cream of the Crop is supported by Scioto Foundation, Ohio Arts Council and the museum's individual and corporate members.

The museum is located at 825 Gallia St., Portsmouth. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The museum is closed on Sunday, Monday and state holidays. Admission is free.
