Mrs. Alexander was born Feb. 14, 1918, in Load, Ky., a daughter of the late David Crockett and Mettie Alice Miller Quillen.
She was retired from Mitchellace Company in Portsmouth, Ohio, was a member of First Baptist Church in South Shore, Ky., since 1939, and was a member of the Sunday school class of Ruth. She had taught Sunday school since 1948.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Frank Alexander; four brothers, Charles Elby Quillen, William "Bill" Quillen, Harley Quillen and Herston Quillen; two sisters, Lorene Barker and Flora Borowski; one grandson, Carl Leroy Brown Jr.; and one son-in-law, William Mayo Forbes.
She is survived by one son, James Kenny (Loretta Waugh) Alexander of South Portsmouth; three daughters, Gloria Jean (Carl Roy) Brown of South Portsmouth, Betty Forbes of South Portsmouth, and Nancy (Gary) Johnson of Wheelersburg; two brothers, Joe Quillen of Greenup, Ky., and Wesley Quillen of Troy, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret DeHart of Troy, Ohio, and Helen Reed of York, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at First Baptist Church in South Shore, Ky., by Brother Darrell Stephenson and Pastor A.J. Toney. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in South Shore. Arrangements are under the direction of Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Ky.
