DOE plans public meeting

The U.S. Department of Energy will host a public meeting to discuss DOE's Environmental Management Program at Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, with topics of current cleanup process, status of the DUF conversion plant construction, ongoing preparation to transition plant from Cold Shutdown to Decontamination and Decommissioning, and opportunities for public involvement. OUS alumni plan event

The Ohio University Alumni Association Southern Chapter will host a welcome event for Ohio University Southern Interim Dean, Bill Willan, Ph.D. Members of the student body, staff and community will greet Dr. Willan at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, in Mains Rotunda at OUS campus, 1804 Liberty Ave., Ironton. The regularly scheduled Brown Bag Concert, featuring the OUS Activity Band, under the direction of Pat McCoy, Ph.D., will follow at 12:15 pm. Blood drive is Wednesday

A blood drive will be conducted by Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, at Green High School, 4057 Gallia Pike, Franklin Furnace. To make an appointment, call the school at (740) 354-9150.

Woodcock Walk is Saturday

Participants for the Woodcock Walk should meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, at the Shawnee State Park Office at the campgrounds of Roosevelt Lake, Ohio 125. The walk will include a journey into the forest to observe this bird's mating rituals.

Come prepared for inclement weather with layered clothing, sturdy boots and a walking stick. For more information, call Jenny Richards, park naturalist, at (740) 858-6652.

Red Cross to host event today

The Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross will celebrate Red Cross Month with its annual "Celebrity Server" event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, at Golden Corral in New Boston.

Tips earned by the celebrity waiters will go to the local chapter.

Police officers and deputy sheriffs will serve from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Church ministers will serve from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
