A DNA match forwarded by state authorities to the Scioto County Sheriff's Office, has resulted in a McDermott man being arrested Wednesday in connection with the rape of a patient at an area nursing home.

David S. Jenkins, 36, has been charged with one count of rape, a felony of the first degree.

Sheriff Marty V. Donini said the Scioto County Sheriff's Office received a report on Oct. 28, 2007, claiming a patient had been sexually assaulted by one of the nursing staff.

He said deputies responded to the hospital where the patient had been taken, and made a report that was forwarded to detectives.

Donini said detectives collected evidence, and then forwarded that evidence to Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation for testing.

He said after an ongoing investigation, detectives were notified recently of a DNA match, which led to the arrest.

Donini said Jenkins was arrested Wednesday, and a rape charge was filed against him.

According to the sheriff's office, Jenkins is being held in Scioto County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Donini said the successful apprehension of the suspect was the direct result of the joint effort between Scioto County Sheriff's Office detectives, deputies and the Scioto County Area Agency on Aging.

Donini said anyone with information regarding this case can contact Detective Jodi Conkel at (740) 351-1091. He said all calls would remain anonymous.
