He was born Jan. 26, 1948, in Twin Valley, a son of the late Grover C. Riggs Sr. and Gladys Henson Riggs of Lucasville. He was a carpenter and member of Bonser Run Christian Baptist Church.
He also is survived by his wife, Judy Gearheart Riggs of Minford; three sons, Grover C. Riggs II of Minford, Billy Riggs of New Boston and Michael Riggs of Fort Myers, Fla.;. four stepsons, Tommy Gilliland of Jackson, Joey Gilliland of Lucasville, Anthony Gilliland of Portsmouth and Matthew Gilliland of Minford; three stepdaughters, Gina Hufford and Angela Green, both of Portsmouth, and Julie Aeh of Sciotoville; nine brothers, Gary Riggs of Lexington, Ky., Charles Riggs of Lucasville, David Riggs of Columbus, Danny Riggs of Wheelersburg, Chad Riggs of South Shore, Ky., Avery Riggs of Lucasville, Troy Riggs of Columbus, Eli Riggs of Latham and Johnny Riggs of Lucasville; seven sisters, Olivia Robertson of Lucasville, Beth Van Houten of Sunberry, Betty Hale of Barboursville, W.Va., Janice Angel of Obetz, Connie Lewis and Rebecca Schneider, both of Lucasville, and Melissa Sammons of South Shore, Ky.; four grandchildren; and 28 stepgrandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Riggs.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec 28, 2007, at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston, with Pastor Gordon Boggs and Willie Ruggles officiating. Burial will be at Universal Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday 1 to 2 p.m. at D.W. Swick in New Boston.
