The Shawnee State womens team is proving that, even a couple of players down, the squad can rely on anyone at anytime.

Alison Meyer completed a solid weekend performance at the Citizens Bank Classic, scoring 16 points and getting rebounds as the Bears ended the weekend 2-0 with a 73-50 rout of Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday. The Bears improve to 8-1 on the season.

SSU was without point guard Jennifer Grandy and forward Becky Babione who both were out with injuries. Babione should be back for Saturday's game, but Grandy will still need time to recover from a broken finger.

Without the duo, the Bears didn't miss a beat, shooting 47 percent from the field and using solid defense to limit Lindsey Wilson's offense. The Bears also outrebounded the No. 1 rebounding team in the NAIA.

“I think the biggest thing is that the kids coming off the bench really stepped up,” Shawnee State coach Robin Hagen-Smith said. “We got two wins over very good basketball teams and it gives us a shot in the arm and confidence, even for the coaching staff, that the subs can come in and give us good minutes off the bench.”

Mallory Albers scored 15 points and Karen Diehl added nine points and nine rebounds in the win. Kelly Wagner and Britnee Bankston both contributed four assists to lead the team. Wagner added seven points. Shannon Leasure scored eight.

The Bears shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half compared to 33 for Lindsey Wilson. The team will be in action at home on Saturday against Roberts Wesleyan.

The SSU men, however, fell to the College of Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo. 87-83. The eighth-ranked Bobcats won the NAIA Division II title in 2006.
