Main Street Portsmouth has announced $25,000 in grants that are available to local property owners. The funds are allocated for Historic Preservation and come from the 2011 Capitol Improvement Budget.

“Under the Building Improvement Program, property owners or business owners within the MSP (Main Street Portsmouth) district are eligible to apply for grants for work to improve eligible building elements of commercial buildings that are visible from a public right-of-way,” a Main Street Portsmouth press release read. “These grants are provided in recognition of the positive impact that individual building renovations can have on the overall appearance and quality of their storefronts.”

The Main Street Portsmouth district focuses on the downtown and historic Boneyfiddle districts and encompasses roughly the Scioto River east to Gay Street and the Ohio River north to 11th Street.
