She was born June 22, 1923, in Portsmouth, to the late Willis Dabney and Lena Payne Underwood.
Ida Mae was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, and she retired from National Bank of Portsmouth, where she was the elevator operator for 18 years. She was a 1942 Portsmouth High School graduate and member of the former Findlay Street United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Wilbur Ray Arrington, whom she married on Oct. 16, 1950, in Portsmouth, preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1966.
Surviving are her son, Ray C. Arrington of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Erica Holmes, Aaron Anderson and Garrick Anderson; a great-grandson, Desmond Holmes; and two nephews, Gerald and Kim Underwood.
Her daughter, Geneyne Anderson; two brothers, Robert Paul Underwood and Donald Lee Underwood; and her half brother, Willis Underwood Jr., also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Elder Ralph Clay and Pastor Mike Phillips officiating, with interment in Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until the funeral hour.
