Three arrested for drugs, one for firearms

Portsmouth police made a bust Friday that resulted in three people facing drug charges and another facing firearms charges.

Antonio L. Turner, 23, of 2294 Purdue Ave., Columbus, and Tony L. Mershon, 39, of 1216 Summit St., Portsmouth, both are charged with trafficking in crack cocaine, a felony of the first degree, trafficking in heroin, and possession of crack, both second degree felonies, an possession of heroin, a felony of the third degree.

William W. Sadler, 32, of 2431 Scioto Trail, was charged with possession of crack, and Ronald E. Shaw, 19, of 16554 Tuller St., Detroit, Mich., faces a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, a loaded firearm.

Officers of the PPD responded to the area of 1216 Summit St., after receiving information a subject who goes by the street name of “Shawn” (Turner) was inside the residence and selling heroin.

Drug enforcement officer Steven Timberlake said officers were familiar with his vehicle, which was parked in front, and they contacted the residents at the Summit Street address, identified as Tony and Cindy Mershon, who gave consent to search the residence.

Police said they found Turner sitting on a couch in the living room. The search revealed 13 prepackaged baggies of crack cocaine (15 grams) and 12 prepackaged baggies of heroin (7 grams) in a vacuum cleaner in the living room.

Officers said they also found digital scales and baggies for weighing and packaging both the crack and heroin.

A search of Turner revealed $2,900 in one shoe, a small baggie with a rock of crack cocaine in the other and $980 in his pants pocket.

Officers said while they were at the residence they received information Sadler, on Center Street, had drugs from the Summit Street residence. Officers then went to 1407 Center St. where they were given permission to enter, and found Shaw walking away from a couch where he was sitting.

A search of the residence revealed a loaded 22 caliber revolver on the couch where Shaw was sitting, and a plate in an upstairs bedroom where Sadler and Angel Scott were found.

Officers also said while they were at the residence, an unknown male from Detroit known only by “E” arrived and fled from officers. He was unable to be located in the area.

The police report also said two juveniles lived in the house and one was present when officers arrived.
