Firefighter training is Sunday
The Ohio Valley Firefighters Association and Scioto County Joint Vocational School District will have their 2007 Ohio Valley Fire School Sunday at the Scioto County JVS South Campus, located next to the JW Village Market, U.S. 23 near Rosemount. There will be no cost for OVFA members. Nonmember registration will be $10 per person. Registration will be from 7 to 8:30 a.m., with classes beginning at 9 a.m. Lunch will be catered. Classes will include farm extrication, pump maintenance and operations, auto extrication, rope rescue, basic wildland firefighting and various EMS topics.
GHS band fest will be noon Saturday
Area high school marching bands will compete Saturday at Green High School's Festival of the Bands in Franklin Furnace. The correct time for competition to begin is noon.
Mosquito spraying is scheduled
Washington Township trustees will conduct mosquito spraying in the Washington Township area from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Anyone with respiratory problems should consider closing windows and shutting off any window-unit air conditioners until the fog has dissipated.
Book sale is Tuesday
American Association of University Women will have a book clearance sale from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Third and Market streets. All books will be 25 cents each or a bag of books for $1.
All proceeds will go to the scholarship fund of AAUW/Portsmouth Branch.
