Local man bemoans vandalism, possible recent theft at cemetery

I walk and travel through Greenlawn Cemetery almost daily. I have seen and heard many bad happenings in our beautiful, well-kept cemetery, thanks to caring people, John and Sandy Moss.

I keep praying that those destroying and toppling our sacred stones may one day, when they are long gone, have someone pay them back for what they have done.

I also have talked to many people who have had flowers, vases and small statues of angels stolen from graves.

Now, in the past two to three weeks, the original gravestone - installed in 1937, of our Bessie Tomlin, the only Portsmouth resident to die in the '37 Flood - has been missing.

In talking to John and Sandy, they feel it has been stolen. This is part of Portsmouth history. How can these people steal from the dead? I hope and pray whoever it was reads or hears of this and will return this historic stone to its rightful home.
