Clay's Ryan Hines had the low score. West came away with the win.
Hines blistered a two-under par 33 at Shawnee State Park Golf Course Wednesday to grab medalist honors. Despite the “gem” of a round, Clay finished seven strokes behind West, which won the tri-match with a score of 153. The Panthers shot a 160, while South Webster had a 167.
West had a trio shoot 38. Nathan Brandenburg, Noah O'Rourke and Matt Folsom all turned in three-over par rounds, while Matt Simpson turned a 39 for the Senators.
“I was very pleased to go up against two teams the caliber of Clay and South Webster and come away with a victory,” said West coach Eric Gray. “The conditions were grueling. The heat and humidity were high, and it was miserable.”
“We were fortunate to put four golfers in the 30s,” said Gray. “I was especially pleased with the play of Matt Folsom. He was very steady throughout the round.”
“West played really well tonight. Any time you put four players in the 30s, it's great,” said Clay coach Mark Pelfrey. “These are probably the three best teams in the SOC this year, and it was a good match. Ryan is playing strong right now, and putting well. He is just playing well right now, and has been under par the last three matches.”
