James Earl “Popeye” Dunn Sr., 64, of Portsmouth, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at his residence.

Born Dec. 5, 1942, in Middletown, Ohio, he was a son of the late Earl Dunn and Louise Roberts Dunn Lemon, and Charles Lemon, and was an Army veteran.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Crisp; and his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Samantha Dunn.

Surviving are four sons, James Earl Dunn Jr., of Portsmouth, Jeff Dunn, of Sciotoville, John Dunn, of McDermott, and Steve Scott, of Portsmouth; four brothers, Ed “Pee Wee” Dunn and Dave Lemon, both of Columbus, and John Lemon and Jerry Lemon, both of Portsmouth; three sisters, Janet Davis and Rosemary Chaffin, both of Columbus, and Gloria Lemon, of Portsmouth; three grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; many nieces and nephews; and a lifelong companion and friend, Shirley Dunn.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Brad Harris officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion. Friends may call at Brant's in Sciotoville from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service Wednesday.
